The Palace Theater at the Broadway at the Beach Entertainment Complex in Myrtle Beach hosts a collection of some of the greatest shows and live entertainment in America, including a resident show, “Hooray for Hollywood”.

Examples of what goes on stage at the Palace Theater, include headliner Broadway-style shows like “Nuncrackers — The Nunsense Christmas Musical”, “Always… Patsy Cline”, “ Ruthless- The Musical”, “The 39 Steps”, “The Complete Works of William Shakespeare Abridged”, “The Secret Garden” and “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee”. An ice-skating show, “Christmas on Ice”, has been staged at the holiday season and seems to be drawing sufficiently large crowds that it has become an annual event.

The Palace Theater is a prime piece of southern colonial architecture with its graceful, tall columns and domed roof; inside, the dome covers the foyer, a golden hub with three crystal chandeliers. This theater is worth a visit even if you don’t plan to take in a performance. With ample parking and 2,638 seats in the proscenium-arch theater space, it’s big, spacious and accessible. The theater has several concessions that offer light meals, snacks, beer and wine; there is also a gift shop on site.

The Palace Theater stages family fun nights at certain times of the year, where parents can take their children to an age-appropriate show, preceded by kids’ activities like face-painting, clowns and magicians, and free hot dogs and soda pop. It’s a great way to introduce youngsters to the culture of theater.
