Renowned entertainer and entrepreneur, Calvin Gilmore, founded the Carolina Opry in 1986. He still performs on the stage of the theater that bears his name, Gilmore Auditorium, and the Carolina Opry’s on-line shop sells his CDs. This theater venue has a capacity of 2,200 seats. For those especially interested in live entertainment, the Carolina Opry Theater is the home to four award-winning live entertainment experiences, “Good Vibrations”, Carolina Opry specials and laser light extravaganzas. The Carolina Opry Theater stages three popular shows that include the Carolina Opry, a variety show that features rock ‘n’ roll, country classics, and gospel music, with dancing and comedy. There is also the Carolina Opry Christmas Special in November and December every year, transforming the theater into a winter wonderland and focusing on celebrations for the season. The Good Vibrations show is a multi-media spectacle, featuring the most popular rock and pop songs from the 1960s through to the 1980s.
