The Waccatee Zoo is a large farm spanning 500 acres, and housing exotic and indigenous animals. Within the zoo area is a children’s petting zoo, where people-friendly animals can be fed by hand, a fine way to introduce children to animals other than the dogs and cats they may have at home. Privately owned, the Waccatee Zoo is an animal park and nature trail all in one, so a visit can include a relaxing hike before or after visiting the collection of animals.
The Waccatee Zoo is also home to more than 100 species of animals and living on 50 acres of contained space where visitors can come and say hello (or hee-haw or moo…!). The zoo’s management concentrates on creating a natural, wooded animal sanctuary with animals such as kangaroos, camels, zebras, buffalos, the cat family and tropical birds living in surrounding that feel almost like their wild habitats.
The Waccatee Zoo supplies a perfect day away from the sand and surf for Myrtle Beach vacationers, especially those who love flora and fauna, or have the family along. It offers picnic areas, wagon rentals for kids, entertainment and plenty of feed to give to the animals. This zoo is located near Disney World, another great family destination, but with “fake” animals! Other Waccatee Zoo amenities include a gift shop, snack bars and vending machines. Come for a walk, a stroll and a conversation with a leopard or giraffe. The little ones on your family with love the Waccatee Zoo as much as pr even better than the beach!
