More down-to-earth than its glamorous neighbor, Corniche Beach, Al Bateen Beach attracts locals who go there to swim and fish on their
weekend, Thursdays and Fridays.
The United Arab Emirates is one of the more relaxed and liberal of the Islamic nations in the Middle East, with hot, dry weather 10 months of the year, and
as a result is becoming a more popular tourist destination.
Spas are a big part of the Abu Dhabi tourism culture, and it is reported that many people suffering joint conditions, such as arthritis, find the dry climate
to be soothing and beneficial; the many spas ameliorate this experience.
Because Al Bateen Beach draws more locals, western tourists who visit must show paramount respect for the Muslim customs. Certain days are designated for women
and their children only; they are not permitted to be seen by men who are not their relatives. On such days, find something else to do or visit another beach.
Thanks to ample galleries, museums and other attractions, there are plenty of things to do in Abu Dhabi on a non-beach day.
Al Bateen Beach is commonly used for fishing, swimming and picnics, but when you go in the water be conscious of the many jet skis shooting about at quick speeds.
Al Bateen Beach is close to golf courses, tennis courts, nightclubs, spas, the Khalidiyah Mall, and the International Marine Sports Club. The beach itself is not
as loaded with amenities as other area beaches that are more geared towards western tourists, so take snacks and water, and bring your fishing rod!
