From the former harbor lands that were once a polluted scene and the site of derelict buildings has risen, since the 1930s, Cherry Beach. It’s a popular spot for locals and tourists alike. Mammoth efforts to clean up the land and water in this area many decades ago (before the environment was a serious concern) have resulted in a long, clean beach with funky lifeguard stations and a happy family atmosphere, right in the midst of all the action of a busy commercial port. There is always something to see and do.
Here you will find opportunities to swim, windsurf, kitesurf and play beach volleyball, and at meal times, picnic tables and barbeque pits for cooking are plentiful. The beach area is well equipped with change rooms and public washrooms. Because of its location in downtown Toronto, it is easily accessible by car, bicycle and public transit, or on foot!
All members of the family will enjoy Cherry Beach (sometimes referred to by locals as “cheery beach” because of its friendly atmosphere) with its range of activities, including a children’s playground, several soccer fields and an off-leash dog section for the four-footed member of the clan.
Cherry Beach is a wonderful example of what can be achieved when local government and citizens work together for a common goal. Indeed, a cheery beach for everyone is the result.
