Dzul-Ha Beach may be great for swimming, but the beach itself is a bit precarious, with sharp-edged shells, corals and sea urchins littering the sand; you’ll need beach shoes or sandals to get you to the water’s edge; from there it’s sandy and safe underfoot. Still, it’s worth the effort to have a superb swim in lovely, warm sea waters, and there is a shell-free access path to the right of the dock area.

Amenities at Dzul-Ha Beach include lockers for clothing and personal items, freshwater showers, and a fine hardwood deck that makes movement easy for wheelchairs and older adults; this is a fine beach for a boardwalk stroll. There are glass-bottom boat tours that leave from Dzul-Ha Beach, and here is the location of some of the island’s larger hotels, so there are more accouterments at this beach than most on Cozumel.

However, there is a distinct lack of beach chairs and loungers, so be sure to bring a beach towel when you visit this beach. The beachside bar has chairs, of course, but they are for use by patrons of the establishment.

Like most places on Cozumel, Dzul-Ha Beach is popular with snorkelers, and offers arranged tours of the reefs, or you can explore quite safely on your own. The underwater marine life, including plants, tropical fish and corals, are colorful and filled with movement, some of that from the soft ocean currents. It’s a magical environment.
