Just a little further along the Cape Forchu Island’s second causeway, past False Harbour Beach, on the left is a neat little cove, protected by swaying evergreens and tall sand dunes covered in vegetation, and just out of the way of serious ocean currents. This is known as John’s Cove Beach. It is surrounded by rough, dry grasses and a slight incline in the sand, making it cozy.

People, mostly locals, swim here in summer and paddle in it all year round, even in winter on the milder days. It boasts a soft, beige sand beach in a half-circle configuration, and is perfect for sunbathing and swimming, or a beach picnic (lobster rolls are the best thing to pack!).

John’s Cove Beach sits in an completely undeveloped area; one house is built near the beach, but does not own it. It’s a public-use beach. Across the channel, you can see the rock formations in the sides of the shoreline that lead to Yarmouth harbor, and watch the pleasure craft and commercial vessels as they enter and exit Yarmouth.

If you didn’t know where you were, John’s Cove Beach would make you believe you were somewhere in Cape Cod. It’s got all the ambience of a bigger eastern seaboard beach, with none of the traffic or noise.
