Marie Curtis Park Beach and the adjoining parkland is a popular destination for families thanks to abundant recreational facilities for children, be that individual entertainment such as swings,
monkey-bars, seesaws and a wading pool, to group sports like baseball.
The signs here say, “Please walk on the grass” and it’s arguably the friendliest park and beach in Toronto. The huge playground is in the park area, but the beach is long, with warm southern exposure, and some
of the swings and playground amenities are right on the sand.
This is where wide Etobicoke Creek feeds into Lake Ontario, and the graceful willows bend over the water as you walk toward the beach, creating a natural shade and rest area. Try biking or even hiking in this area;
the walking trail is called “Etobicoke Creek Trail” and is so peaceful that you would hardly know you were in a big metropolis.
On the beach there are volleyball nets, and great spots to picnic, with tables supplied (get there early to get the choice picnic location!). And enjoy a little bird watching; Canada geese, ducks and other birds hang around
the beach, too. It’s always fun to visit the cannon, a classic of Toronto’s distant past, as it sits on the beach keeping vigil for the children playing all around.
The efficient GO Transit trains stop nearby at the Long Branch GO station, and it’s only a 5-minute walk from there. The beach is close to the Toronto Golf Club and shopping, and there are two boat-launch ramps at Marie Curtis Park Beach.
