In Spanish, “angosta” translates as “narrow” and this is indeed a narrow stretch of beach. It is strung between two cliffs, both of them tall and impressive,
at either end. A neighborhood known for its cliffs, the adjacent inlet is La Quebrada, home of Acapulco’s famous cliff divers.
Situated on the open Pacific, Playa Angosta Beach is more exposed than most and suffers somewhat less from the pollution inherent in the Acapulco Bay area that is home to most
Acapulco Beaches. Because it is on the Pacific Ocean, this beach has the potential for large waves and strong currents, so it is more the type of beach for a stroll, beachcombing, or
sunbathing and R&R.
The beach is lined with kiosks that offer locally made goods and lighter food and drinks. There are little or no bothersome beach vendors here, and it’s a rare location in that regard.
People come to this beach to picnic and enjoy a sunny afternoon, then linger for the spectacular, multi-colored sunsets.
At the beach is the Sinfonia del Sol amphitheater, a concert venue that is used in the day and evening. Sunset-worshippers often use the seats as their perches when no concert is on, as
the sun slides over the horizon. Playa Angosta Beach is for dreams, lovers and romantic moments in the last shreds of the late-day sun.
